Why Formulation Transfers Are More Challenging Than Ever

Our core services include Custom Development, Private Label, and White Label, but we can also take developed formulations through to manufacturing via our Technical Transfer process.

In a Technical Transfer we are given an existing skincare formulation and adapt it for our GMP manufacturing system. This includes reviewing the formula, setting up documentation and process mapping, and preparing the product for full-scale commercial production. With the IP owned by the client, we manufacture the formulation exactly according to the provided process details, without making further adjustments.

As AI services continue to grow, it introduces new regulatory and IP challenges for our specialised services, especially when it comes to Technical Transfer projects.

Here are some of the new obstacles we’re facing:

1. 🧪Theoretical Formulations: AI can easily produce ingredient lists that are not always technically workable as a product. Its solutions, more often than not, create delays with our own process.
2. ✂ Service Shortcuts:  AI platforms have been utilised to work around services and associated fees, including IP ownership.
3. 🔎Intellectual Property (IP): A ‘formulation‘ produced using AI remains subject to intellectual property regulations. AI generated ‘formulations‘ have no substantiated manufacturing process or product sample to demonstrate a finished good and produces ‘solutions’ that are not unique or workable.

Clients who provide a pre-existing formulation with the substantiated data we require for a Technical Transfer retain the IP.

While we view AI platforms as useful tools for product inspiration, My Skincare Manufacturer does not accept ‘formulations‘ solely created by AI for Technical Transfer.
